One of a series of drawings which contain both pre- and post-production documentation elements.  Collaged in are scraps from notebooks made during the brainstorming phases of the piece, technical notes developed during production, and sketches made after the piece was finished.

Your Book of Days project document

One intent behind the production of these sketches is to create a durable public record which can be used to repair or rebuild the piece regardless of my presence.

A second goal is to manifest some of the processes involved in the making a time-based technological work, most of which  are invisible, or at best implicit, in the final work.

I try to include fragments of flowcharting, machine programming code, electrical schematic drawings, and mechanical engineering sketches where available.

I hope that these documents may overcome the inherent weaknesses of electronic means of knowledge archiving, the incessant obsolescence of particular data formats, by using one of the oldest and most standardized storage mediums: indelible ink on archival paper.
